The two squads opened up the day with singles play where junior Grant Fleming quickly gave the Kangaroos a 1-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win over James Thorp at No. 1 before sophomore Cameron Schoenhofer dismissed Morgan Salo at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0 to push the lead to 2-0 in favor of the 'Roos.
Gustavo Guerin, the 'Roos lone senior honoree, then made the score 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 over Alejandro Marin at No. 5 and junior Abdulrahman Alawadhi clinched the match for UMKC with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Justin Pyle from the No. 3 line.
Junior Nino Hasandedic earned his second victory in as many matches since returning from injury with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 4 over Dominic Rosetto, while sophomore Tomas Patino knocked off Parker Lawley, 7-5, 6-2 to round out the Kangaroo singles lineup.
In doubles play, freshman Conner Edwards and Patino were the first to finish, registering an 8-1 win over Marin and Salo, while Fleming and Schoenhofer took down Thorp and Lawley at No. 1, 8-5 to make the final match score 7-0. Alawadhi and Guerin then defeated Pyle and Rossetto, 8-7 (7-5) at No. 2 to close out the match and complete the sweep for the 'Roos.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow afternoon when they host Summit League foe Oral Roberts at 1 p.m. at Loyola Park on the Campus of Rockhurst University.
