(Kansas City, Mo.)  - The UMKC men's tennis team (5-15) picked up its fourth win in its last five matches on Wednesday afternoon when it swept local rival William Jewell (11-8) at the Plaza Tennis Center.

The Kangaroos opened the day with doubles action, claiming the point with a sweep of the three matches.  Senior Gustavo Guerin and junior Abdulrahman Alawadhi put the squad on the board first with an 8-3 win over Bronson Brassel and Max Cooper at No. 2, while sophomore Tomas Patino and Conner Edwards clinched the point for the 'Roos with an 8-5 win at No. 3 over Jimmy Hunter and Chris Reimer.  Junior Grant Fleming and sophomore Cameron Schoenhofer then completed the sweep with an 8-6 win at the No. 1 line over Shane Giannetti and Bryan Thomas.

In singles action, Schoenhofer quickly pushed the UMKC lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Will Gross at No. 6 before reigning Summit League Player of the Year Nino Hasandedic took down Hunter, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 in his first match back after missing the last 15 with an injury.

Alawadhi then clinched the match for the Kangaroos with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Cooper and Fleming made it 5-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 over Giannetti.  From the No. 2 line, Patino knocked off Brassell, 6-2, 6-2, while Guerin rounded out the UMKC lineup with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Eric Dailey at No. 4.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow afternoon when they host Summit League foe South Dakota State at 3 p.m. at Loyola Park on the Campus of Rockhurst University.
