'Roos Nab Doubles Point In 4-1 Loss At No. 43 Arkansas

(Kansas City, Mo.)  - The UMKC men's tennis team (1-10) fell 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon to No. 43 Arkansas (14-5) at the Dills Indoor Tennis Facility in Fayetteville, Ark., despite the Kangaroos taking the doubles point with victories in two of the three matches.

The two teams opened up the day with doubles action, where the Razorbacks' pairing of Manfred Jeske and Taj Harrison defeated senior Gustavo Guerin and junior Tim Akhmedov, 8-0.  The 'Roos, though, quickly evened the matches at one each with an 8-6 victory by freshman Conner Edwards and sophomore Tomas Patino over Victor Hoang and Jovan Parlic from the No. 3 line.  UMKC then claimed the doubles point with a win at No. 1 by the duo of junior Grant Fleming and sophomore Cameron Schoenhofer over Gregoire Lehmann and Mike Ward, 8-6.

In singles action, Arkansas evened the match at one point apiece, as Hoang downed Akhmedov, 6-3, 6-1, before taking their first lead of the day with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 4 by Parlic over Schoenhofer.

At No. 3, the Razorbacks picked up their third point of the day with a 7-5, 6-3 win by Ward over Guerin, while Harrison's 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win at No. 5 over Edwards gave the hosts the match win.

In UMKC's other two singles matches, Patino and Lehmann were tied early in the third set at No. 2, with the score sitting at 2-6, 6-2, 2-2, while Fleming was trailing Jeske, 6-3, 4-6, 2-0 at No. 1.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Mar. 20 when they take on No. 46 Drake in Des Moines, Iowa, at 6 p.m.
