UMKC Downs Billikens For First Win

(Kansas City, Mo.)  - The UMKC men's tennis team (1-7) picked up its first win of the season on Friday afternoon when it took down Saint Louis (5-6), 5-2, at the Sunset Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo.

The 'Roos opened the match by taking all three doubles matches by identical 8-4 scores to claim the point.  At No. 1, junior Grant Fleming and sophomore Cameron Schoenhofer defeated Vuk Poledica and Drew Feder, while at No. 2, senior Gustavo Guerin and junior Abdul Alawadhi were victorious over Patrick Kella and Dave Welkener.  From the No. 3 spot, sophomore Tomas Patino and freshman Conner Edwards beat Bobby Kidera and Yehia El Sallaly.

In singles action, Fleming continued his winning ways with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 win over Kidera at No. 1 and Patino downed Poledica, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2.  Guerin, meanwhile, was victorious over El Sallaly at the No. 2 line, 6-4, 6-2, while Alawadhi picked up the 'Roos fifth point with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Kella.

At No. 4, Feder took down Schoenhofer, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 and at No. 6, Welkener defeated Edwards, 6-1, 3-6, 10-5.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Monday when they welcome in Abilene Christian to Kansas City for their home opener.
