St. George, Utah -- The UMKC men's golf team sits in a tie for third place following the first day of competition at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational. The 'Roos, who have a pair of players among the top-10 individually, fired a six-over par 294 at the Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah.
Sophomore Will Robson is tied with six other players atop the standings after firing a two-under par 70. The round was Robson's second at or below par this season. He is tied with Southern Utah's Jeff Evans, Dixie State's Aaron Tuttle and
Taylor Reardon, Utah State's Tanner Highan
and College of Charlston's Harrison Moore.
Freshman Viktor Mikaelsson is the second UMKC player among the top-10, as he is tied for 10th place after carding a one-over par 73.
Seniors Brett Iliff and Alex Hogben rounded out UMKC's counting players. Iliff is tied for 27th with a 75, while Hogben is tied for 36th with a 76.
Freshman Korbin Kuehn and redshirt junior Josh Taylor round out the squad. Kuehn, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 45th after carding a 77, while Taylor is tied for 59th with an 80.
Host Southern Utah holds a three shot advantage in the team standings over College of Charleston after finishing with a 290. The T-Birds top-four players all rank among the top-18.
The 'Roos will play the final 18 holes of the tournament tomorrow morning beginning at 10 a.m.
