Victor F. Swyden Athletics Training Facility

The UMKC Victor F. Swyden Athletics Training Facility opened in the spring of 1999, and was built in the memory of Victor F. Swyden, a former Kansas City councilman and UMKC supporter.

The Swyden Athletics Training Facility serves as a permanent tribute to Swyden's ardent support of UMKC Intercollegiate Athletics. In 1985, Swyden headed a taskforce that guided the Kangaroos from NAIA to NCAA Division I.

A lifetime resident of Kansas City, Swyden graduated from Paseo High School and served for 20 years as a Kansas City councliman.

He earned his bachelor of arts degree in 1938 and bachelor of science degree in business and public administration in 1939 from the University of Missouri. In 1993, Swyden was the second recipient of the Golden Torch Award, one of the highest honors given by UMKC to an individual.
