Chantel Bethune joined the Student-Athlete Support Services Office staff in August 2017. As a graduate assistant for SASSO, Bethune currently serves as an Academic Mentor and Assistant Advisor for Men’s And Women’s Cross Country Team, Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Team, and Women’s Golf. She works individually with both incoming and at-risk student-athletes on a weekly basis to provide a variety of educational support to aid student-athletes in achieving their academic, personal, and professional goals.
Additionally, Bethune works with the Assistant Director of Academic Support to coordinate and manage all aspects of the Community Outreach Development. Furthermore, Bethune works with various community partners to coordinate community service for student-athletes.
Originally from Clarendon, Jamaica, Bethune graduated from the University of Missouri- Kansas City in 2017 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Sciences with a minor in Public Health. While at UMKC, Bethune was a member of the Women’s Track & Field Team. As a sprinter, she earned various academic honors including Summit League and WAC All-Academic Mention in 2012-2017. Bethune currently holds, UMKC indoor 400m, 4x400m relays record, outdoor 400m, 200m, and 4x400m relay records.
While at UMKC, Bethune is pursuing her Master’s degree in Social Work with an emphasis in Mental Health, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. In the future, she hopes to work in the community, to decrease mental health stigma in Jamaica.
