KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC women’s soccer team will suit up for the first time on Sunday, Aug. 13, with a home exhibition match against the Kansas State Wildcats. Kickoff between the two clubs, which was originally scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT, has been moved up to a 3 p.m. CT start time.
About the Roos
UMKC returns 10 starters from last season’s squad that finished third in the Western Athletic Conference and reached the WAC Tournament Championship game for the third time in four years. The Roos boast two preseason All-WAC selections in juniors Reighan Childers (Grain Valley, Mo.) and Lexie Howard (Kearney, Mo.), and were picked to finish second in the WAC by the league’s coaches. Head coach Chris Cissell enters his seventh season at UMKC and is just seven wins shy of 350 career victories.
About the Wildcats
Kansas State is coming off a 4-9-3 season from the program’s inaugural campaign in 2016. It will be the first season that the Wildcats will compete with a full Big 12 Conference slate. The Wildcats are led by head coach Mike Dibbini, who holds a wealth of experience and a career record of 269-87-34.
UMKC begins the 2017 regular season on the road with a pair of matches at Oral Roberts (Aug. 18) and Oklahoma State (Aug. 20).
