Olson enters his first season at UMKC in 2017 after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at UNI for the past two seasons. He will assist with on-court training, film and statistical analysis, travel and recruiting on Posey’s staff.

“I want to thank Coach Posey and Coach Jones for bringing me on staff at UMKC,” shared Olson. “I am extremely excited to be a part of this program’s growth. I cannot wait to begin impacting our student-athletes and helping them grow both on and off of the court.”

With the Panthers, Olson assisted in the scouting of opponents, player evaluations and travel operations. He also initiated skill-specific drills with hitters, blockers and defensive specialists. In his time at UNI, Olson was a part of a coaching staff that guided the Panthers to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2015 and 2016.

Olson came to Cedar Falls, Iowa, from St. Paul, Minn., where he was an assistant coach with the Roseville Area High School volleyball team. As his time as an assistant, the Raiders held the longest state win streak at 18 consecutive matches, while receiving three straight state tournament bids. Olson helped coach one Pioneer Press Athlete of the Year, four All-Metro Team student-athletes, two All-State student-athletes and eight Division I-III recruits.

Prior to his stint at Roseville Area High School, Olson served as Michigan State’s women’s volleyball club coach for two seasons, where he was nominated for Division I Club Coach of the Year. Olson helped turn around a program that finished last in its standings to No. 6 in the national rankings.

Olson earned his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from UNI in 2016. He plans to continue his education at UMKC by working towards a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration.
