Shelby Hild joined the Roos in February 2017 as the Assistant Director of Strategic Communications and was promoted to Director of Strategic Communications in August. In this role, she serves as the primary contact for men's basketball, cross country, track and field and men’s soccer.
Prior to UMKC, she served as a graduate assistant in Missouri State’s Athletics Communications department in Springfield, Mo., where she directed the day-to-day communications efforts for men’s soccer, women’s soccer, cross country and track and field. She also oversaw publication design and development for select sports, including game programs, press releases and game notes, while assisting with editorial efforts for all 17 sports programs.
Before joining the Bears, Hild served as a media relations assistant with the Missouri Valley Conference office, developing creative press releases for league-wide distribution and publication on the MVC website for the sports of swimming and diving, golf, tennis and track and field. She also got the unique opportunity to create a weekly press release on behalf of the conference’s Commissioner Doug Elgin for the purpose of promoting the MVC’s Scholar Athlete of the Week initiative.
Over the last three years, she has interned and volunteered with several events and organizations including the Peoria Chiefs, River City Rascals, St. Louis Rams, Missouri Valley Conference men’s and women’s basketball tournaments (Arch Madness, Chuck Madness/Hoops in the Heartland) and the NCAA Men’s Basketball First and Second Rounds on two occasions.
Hild earned her bachelor’s degree from Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo., in Rawlings Sport Business Management and received her master’s degree at Missouri State in Administrative Studies, with an emphasis in Sports Management. She is a member of CoSIDA and actively serves on the Job Seekers and Young Professional Committees.
