Charlie Emerson joined the UMKC Sports Medicine staff in November of 2015 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. He came to UMKC after nearly two years at South Carolina State.
While at SCSU, he served as head athletic trainer for the football and tennis teams, while also spending time with men's basketball and women's soccer.
A native of Stratford, Conn., he spent two years as the head athletic trainer at Airport High School in West Columbia, S.C., before serving two years in the assistant athletic trainer role at North Carolina State, working with track and field and cross country.
He attended graduate school at South Carolina, where he was a graduate assistant from 2007-09 and worked with track and field. He also worked with Eau Claire High School during his time there.
He has worked as a Big XII medical observer with Kansas football, and has been a medical volunteer at the Boston Marathon in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2014.
He has presented original research at the National Athletic Trainer's Association, American College of Sports Medicine, and Atlantic Coast Conference Annual Meetings.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Connecticut in 2006, and his master's from South Carolina in 2009. He is a board certified athletic trainer, and licensed in both Kansas and Missouri.
He and his wife Dawn and dog, Roscoe, reside in Eudora, Kan.
