Friday's events at the Alex Wilson Invitational are set to begin at 5 p.m. with the women's weight throw, while Saturday's action is slated to start at 11 a.m. with men's triple jump, the women's shot put, and the women's 60m hurdle trials.
Lasting only one day, the NCAA Last Chance Qualifier competition on Saturday is set to start with the field events at 10 a.m. with the women's weight throw.
Last Time Out for UMKC...
It traveled to Fort Wayne, Ind. to compete in The Summit League Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25, as the men placed sixth (75 points) and the women finished fifth (63 points).
Also, Charles Hinton won the silver medal in the 60-meter dash (7.08), as Kristen Hepburn won the bronze medal in the 60-meter hurdles (8.34). In the 200-meter dash, Josh Butler won the bronze medal (22.44), while D.C. Okonta placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 47-03.50 (14.41m).
In the 5,000 meters, Cosmas Ayabei placed third with a time of 14:39.77 to take home the bronze medal, while Group A (Chandler Hannah, Butler, Johnathon Barnett, Redell Frazier) also placed third in the 4x400-meter relay.
On the women's side, Jylian Jaloma finished third with a school-best 10:01.81 in the 3,000 meters, while Stephany Johnson finished second in triple jump with a mark of 40-06.75 (12.36m) despite suffering a leg injury.
Also, Viola Kleiser set a new school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.17. Earlier in the year at the Iowa State Classic in this event, Kleiser set the previous record crossing the finish line at 25.18.
Jylian Going the Distance
After last week's performance, the Atchison, Kan. native now holds the school records in the 3,000 meters (10:01.81) and 5,000 meters (17:18.19).
In addition, Jaloma holds the third (5:04.66) and fourth (5:05.02) best times in school indoor history in the mile along with the fifth best performance (10:07.40) in the 3,000 meters and the fourth best performance (17:33.88) in the 5,000 meters.
Same Old Cosmas
Despite placing fourth in the 3,000 meters last week, Cosmas Ayabei set a school record (8:23.28) in this event for the second-straight season at the league indoor championships. Last year, the Kenya native set the school record (8:27.83) to win the 3,000 meters.
Coming into this week, Ayabei holds four of the top five best performances in this event in school indoor history.
Johnson Owning the Triple Jump
For the fourth time this season, Stephany Johnson recorded a top five school indoor performance in the triple jump last week at the league indoor championships. This time around, it was good enough to take home the silver medal with the second best outing in school indoor history (40-06.75 - 12.36m).
Also in the preliminary round of the 60-meter dash, Johnson tied the fifth best performance with a personal best time of 7.75.
