KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC volleyball head coach Christi Posey announced on Friday that the 2018 schedule has been finalized and includes 30 regular season matches. The team will play 16 contests at Swinney Recreation Center in addition to hosting a pair of tournaments in nonconference play.
The Roos will open the season hosting the UMKC Invitational on Aug. 24-25 with matchups South Dakota State, Western Michigan and Austin Peay scheduled in the event. Three matches await the team the following weekend in the Omaha Invitational before returning home to host the Kangaroo Classic on Sep. 7-8, where UMKC will take on Southeast Missouri State, SIU Edwardsville, Arkansas State and Providence.
A marquee home contest against Kansas State (Sep. 11) will be played prior to the Roos competing in the Billikin Invitational, where the team will match up with host Saint Louis (Sep. 14), UNLV (Sep. 15) and Murray State (Sep.15).
UMKC opens Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play with a pair of road matches at Grand Canyon (Sep. 20) and Utah Valley (Sep. 22). A season-long four-game home stand follows the opening weekend of conference play with matchups against Chicago State (Sep. 27), California Baptist (Sep. 29), New Mexico State (Oct. 4) and UT Rio Grande Valley (Oct. 6).
Two conference road contests with Chicago State (Oct. 11) and Seattle U (Oct. 13) await the Roos following their home stretch before the team heads back home to host Grand Canyon (Oct. 18). A road swing with CSU Bakersfield (Oct. 25) and the first ever trip to California Baptist (Oct. 27), the newest addition to the WAC), awaits the Roos to end the month of October.
Three consecutive WAC matches at Swinney Recreation Center closes out the home schedule for 2018, where the Roos will host CSU Bakersfield (Nov.1), Utah Valley (Nov. 8) and Seattle U (Nov. 10). The contest with Seattle U will serve as Senior Day for UMKC as the team will honor its four senior student athletes.
The 2018 regular season comes to a close with two road matches at New Mexico State (Nov. 15) and UT Rio Grande Valley (Nov. 17).
