KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC women’s tennis team (7-8) picked up a thrilling 4-3 win over instate foe Missouri State (4-5) on Saturday afternoon at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
In doubles play, Aliona Ladutska and Grace Ball fell to Anelisse Torrico and Phoebe Boeschen, 6-2, at No. 2 but the Roos No. 3 team of Katie Fries and Ioanna Lathouri evened doubles at one match apiece with a 6-4 victory over Fati Khamissi and Alexia Meyer.
Ladutska would quickly evened the match when she picked up a 7-6, 6-0 win at No. 1 over Darter, and, after Brylin Staats fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 to Abbey Belote, Johnson retied the match at 2-2 with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Boeschen at No. 3.
Fries then gave the Roos their first lead of the match and put them one point away from victory when she knocked off Torrico, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2. The Bears came back to tie the match when Thanushree Vale dropped a hard fought three-set match to Khamissi at No. 4, 2-6, 6-0, 6-4, setting up a winner take all spot from the No. 5 line.
At No. 5, the freshman Ball dropped the first set to Burger, 7-6 (6-3), but evened the match at one set apiece with a 6-4 victory in set two. Ball then clinched the match for the Roos with her second straight 6-4 win.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Thursday when they welcome in Iowa State to Kansas City.
