Hudson Finishes Second In The 10K To Lead 'Roos On Day 2 Of WAC Championships

(Orem, Utah) – Senior Dirk Hudson finished second in the 10,000 meter run to lead the Kansas City Track and Field team on the second day of action at the 2014 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Hal Wing Track and Field in Orem, Utah.

Running in nearly 5,000 feet of elevation, the Weston, Mo., native crossed the line in 33:41.73, earning eight points for the ‘Roos and First Team All-WAC honors, while junior Alex Nail garnered four points and Second Team All-WAC honors with a fifth place finish in a time of 34:03.04.

Freshman Meg Sharemet, meanwhile, climbed to a seventh place finish in the heptathlon, finishing with 4,025 points, the fourth most in UMKC history.

Sharemet opened the day with a personal best mark of 16-5.75 (5.02m) in the long jump, good for 565 points, before scoring 414 points in the javelin with a throw of 87-6 (26.67m).

The Spring Hill, Kan., native closed out the heptathlon with time of 2:35.11 in the 800 meter run to score 630 points and put two points on the board for the UMKC women.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow in Day Three of the 2014 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
