(Kansas City, Mo.) – Freshman Meg Sharemet opened up the 2014 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the UMKC track and field team with the first four events in the heptathlon at the Hal Wing Track and Field on the campus of Utah Valley in Orem, Utah.
Sharemet began the day with the 100 meter hurdles, finishing in a time of 16.62 to garner 640 points, while following it up with a mark of 4-6.25 (1.38m) in the high jump, good for 491 points.
In the third event, the shot put, the Spring Hill, Kan., native registered a personal best toss of 34-8.50 (10.58m), the second best mark in the event, earning 567 points.
Sharemet closed out the day in the 200 meter dash, recording a personal best time of 26.93 and garnering 718 points.
Overall, Sharemet enters the final three events with 2,416 points, placing her ninth after the first four competitions.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow in the men’s and women’s 10,000 meter run and with the conclusion of the heptathlon.
