(Kansas City, Mo.) - FC Kansas City has announced a two-year partnership with UMKC that will allow the team to play home games at Stanley H. Durwood Stadium through the 2015 National Women’s Soccer League season.
“We are Kansas City’s Professional Women’s Soccer team,” said FC Kansas City President, Brian Budzinski. “We are excited to be playing on the campus of Kansas City’s university.”
The Stanley H. Durwood Soccer Stadium & Recreational Field (DSSRF) serves as the official home of the Kangaroos and provides student-athletes, students and community groups with one of the top soccer facilities in WAC and the Midwest. The $9 million dollar addition adds to the growing residential feel of the UMKC campus.
DSSRF currently provides seating for 850 fans along with press suites, a ticket booth, and concession stand, while a separate addition hosts locker rooms for men's and women's soccer, softball and track & field, as well as offices for the respective coaching staffs. As part of the agreement, FC Kansas City will increase seating to a capacity of 3,218.
“The support in our first year was beyond what we could have expected,” continued Budzinski. “We understand the seating capacity is smaller than our average attendance last season, but we felt the move to a soccer-specific facility of this stature was important for our fans’ game day experience and for the players on the field.”
UMKC’s Athletic Director, Carla Wilson, has high hopes for this partnership. “This is one more way for us to connect with the broader community in Kansas City. This is a sports town. Our teams are important to us. I love the idea of inviting our community to come to our campus, to cheer for a successful, winning professional franchise that we can all be proud of.”FC Kansas City will play at least eleven regular season home games at Durwood Soccer Stadium for each of the next two seasons. Fans that have already placed deposits for 2014 season tickets will be contacted in the next week by their account executives to facilitate the placement of your seats. Season tickets will then go on sale on January 20th at 10a.m. CT.
