The ‘Roos continue their 2013-14 season on Sep. 23-24 when they head to Erie, Colo., for the 4th Annual Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational at the Colorado National Golf Club. The 54-hole tournament is slated to begin with two rounds on Monday with an 7:15 a.m. shotgun start, while the final round will begin Tuesday with tee times at 7:00 a.m. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
The 15-team field includes Air Force, Campbell, Colorado, Denver, Gonzaga, Houston Baptist, Kansas City, Nebraska, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Oregon State, Texas State, Utah, Washington State and Wyoming. Nine collegiate and eight prep individuals will also take the course for a total of 92 golfers.
Colorado National Golf Club
The tournament will take place at Colorado National Golf Club (CNGC) in Erie, which is located about 12 miles east of Boulder. The championship layout is a 7,741-yard, par-72 configuration, and the greens feature bent grass. CNGC has hosted previous U.S. Amateur qualifiers, Colorado PGA Section championships, the 2011 NCAA Colorado Men’s Regional and the 2012 NCAA Women’s West Regional.
The Kansas City men’s golf team finished in fourth place at the Mark Simpson Invitational in Erie, Colo., at the Colorado National Golf Club, after firing an 854 (280-282-292) in the two-day event, the fourth lowest score in school history.
Nathan Hughes led the ‘Roos in the event with a fourth place finish, carding an eight-under par 208 (67-68-73), tied for the third lowest 54-hole tournament score in UMKC history, while Korbin Kuehn ended the event one shot behind in a tie for fifth position with a seven-under par 209 (68-70-71), tied for the sixth lowest tournament score in school history.
Last Time Out
The Kansas City men’s golf team closed out the Gene Miranda Flacon Invitational, climbing one spot to finish in a tie for ninth place at the Eisenhower Golf Club in Colorado Springs, Colo. The ‘Roos shot 295 in each of three rounds to finish at 885, while host Air Force won the event at 849. Sophomore Antoine Rozner led the ‘Roos in the event, finishing tied for 21st at +2 after shooting an even par 72 in the final round that included two birdies and an eagle on the par four 14th. Senior Nathan Hughes carded Kansas City’s lowest total of the day with a round of 71, highlighted by six birdies, finishing tied for 34th at +4.
