The Game

The UMKC women’s soccer team will kick off the 2013 season beneath the lights of Durwood Soccer Stadium & Recreational Field, Friday, Aug. 23, with a home tilt against the Cougars of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

The Coaches

In his third year at helm, head coach Chris Cissell is looking to bounce back from a 6-9-4 campaign in 2012. In two seasons, Cissell has compiled a record of 14-17-5; marked success for a program that managed just two victories in its first two seasons.

Head coach Derek Burton is entering his sixth season with SIUE. Prior to his arrival in Edwardsville, Burton posted a 54-28-7 record at Missouri Valley College.

The Series

SIUE is 1-0 all-time in the series vs. Kansas City. The Cougars defeated the
Kangaroos 2-1 in last year’s SIUE Tournament.

Scouting the Competition

SIUE advanced to the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in its
first year of eligibility in 2012. The Cougars earned the appearance after a sixth-place finish in the regular season.

Goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley, defender Kourtney Price, midfielder Cassidy Sherman and forward Michelle Auer each were named to the All-OVC second team last season.

SIUE led the OVC in goals allowed (15), goals against average (0.75), and shutouts (9). The Cougars were 35th in the NCAA in GAA. Their shutout percentage of .474 was 40th. Pelley led the OVC and was 17th in the NCAA with a goals against average of 0.60. Her save percentage of .864 was second in the league and 16th in the NCAA.
