LAKEWOOD, Wash. - The UMKC Women's Golf program claimed a fifth-place finish at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships today with a 50-over par 902 (296-307-299) during the three-round event. Over the course of three days at the Oakbrook Golf Club, the Roos started and finished in the fifth position after a strong showing by senior Cynthia Diaz Rueda. In her final performance of her UMKC career, Diaz Rueda went 1-over par today to tie for seventh overall in the event with a seven-over 220 (72-76-72).
With 37 pars during the three-day event, Diaz Rueda tied for the third-most of any competitor. Her finish today now gives her four career top-10 conference championship finishes. As a freshman, she boasted a fourth-place finish, and followed up with a tie for fourth in 2017 and a fifth-place effort in 2018.
Sophomore Caroline Klemp finished with her best outing of the spring season with a 14-over 227 (72-79-76). She was second on the team as she walked into the clubhouse tied for 19th overall. Her previous best in the spring was a 232 at the Hawkeye El-Tigre Invitational. She had 35 pars during the event, tied for seventh most.
New Mexico State and Seattle tied for the No. 1 team finish, with the Aggies winning the conference championship in a playoff. Both squads finished with a 33-over 885 strokes. With a one-over par 214, Dominique Galloway of New Mexico State boasted the individual medalist.
The 'Roos finish fifth in this championship for the second-straight year.
