KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC softball team (25-18, 5-7) picked up a WAC series victory on Saturday after splitting a doubleheader with CSU Bakersfield (14-21, 3-6) at RR Softball Complex in Bakersfield, Calif.

In the late game, the Roos fell behind early as the Roadrunners scored individual runs in each of the first two innings.

Bakersfield then pushed the lead to 4-0 with two more in the fourth, while blanking the Roos for the first six innings of play.

In the seventh though, Faith Willis led-off the inning with a double and moved to third on Sydney Garcia’s groundout.  After a walk to Chyanne Onstad, Bre Hunter singled through the rightside to knock in Willis.

Madason Shaw then followed with a two-run double, plating Onstad and Hunter and cutting the lead down to one.

Two batters later, Maegan Rollow singled to left to put runners on the corners with two outs, leaving Alexis D’Ambrosio as the Roos’ final hope.

The freshman, though, would deliver in a big way with a single that scored Shaw to tie the game and, following a CSUB error, scored Rollow to give UMKC its first lead of the day at 5-4.

Mia Hoveland then locked down the Runners in the seventh to seal the 5-4 victory.

In the opener, the Roos fell 1-0 despite Kailyn Packard tossing 6.0 innings, allowing just four hits and one run with eight strikeouts.

The 25 wins for the Roos are the sixth time in school history that the Roos have reached the 25-wins mark and the is the most wins since the 27 in 2012.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action on Tuesday when they head north to Vermillion, S.D., to take on South Dakota in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. CT.
