KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC softball team (17-9) picked up wins on Friday and Saturday against Creighton and South Dakota State at the Urban Youth Academy.
In the third, Rollow again sparked the Roos offense as her single to right scored Bre Hunter and gave UMKC a 3-1 lead.
The Bluejays answered back with two in the fourth and one in the fifth to go back in front, but the lead was short-lived as the Roos put up a four spot in the sixth.
Madason Shaw got the scoring started when she blasted a solo homerun to left, tying the game at 4-4. D’Ambrosio then gave the Roos the lead for good when her double down the right field line plated Garcia and Faith Willis.
Rollow followed with her fourth RBI of the contest when she singled in D’Ambrosio for the Roos’ final run.
Mia Hoveland then shut down Creighton in the seventh to pick up the 7-4 victory on the mound.
In Friday’s late game, the Roos fell 4-1 with Alexis Kump singling in Hunter for the Roos lone run.
On Saturday, the Roos dropped their first game to Creighton, 10-4 despite a two-run double from Kump and RBI hits from Willis and Shaw.
In the nightcap, UMKC took down SDSU, 6-4.
The Jacks went ahead by two with two in the second, UMKC, though, cut the lead in half with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
SDSU pushed the lead back to two with a run in the third, but UMKC then broke the game wide open in the third.
Garcia and D’Ambrosio opened the inning with back-to-back singles and Chyanne Onstad followed with a double. After a pitching change Hunter doubled in two more, while Shaw polished off the inning with a two-run home run to left.
Hoveland would then keep the Jackrabbits off the board for the next three innings, while allowing just a sac fly in the seventh to pick up the victory.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow when they close out the tournament with a 1:30 p.m. CT game against the Jackrabbits.
