UMKC Falls to Instate Rival at Kansas Invitational

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC softball team (14-7) fell 8-2 to Southeast Missouri State (15-7) on Friday at Arrocha Ballpark in Lawrence, Kan., in the Kansas Invitational.

Alexis D’Ambrosio led the Roo offense, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a run, a homerun and a double.

In the contest, the Redhawks opened the scoring early, scoring five in the first and three more in the second to go ahead 8-0.

In the top of the third, Faith Willis singled to center and two batters later, D’Ambrosio belted a two-run homer to left center to cut into the lead.

Kailyn Packard would hold the Redhawks scoreless and allow just one hit over the final four innings, striking out four, but the Roos were unable to get the offense going, as the fell to SEMO.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow when they close out the tournament against host Kansas at 3 p.m. CT.
