KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC softball team (7-2) moved its win streak to five straight after a pair of wins on Saturday morning at Eagle Field in Statesboro, Ga., in the Eagle Round Robin.  UMKC began the day with a 3-2 win over IUPUI (0-8), its third of the season over the Jaguars, before taking down Morehead State (0-7), 9-2.

In the opener, neither team was able to crack the scoreboard over the first three innings of play, when in the bottom of the fourth, Lia Lombardini blasted a solo homerun to left field, putting UMKC ahead 1-0.

After four shutout innings of work, Roo starter Mia Hoveland surrendered her lone runs of the game in the fifth, as IUPUI plated two in the inning to take the lead.

The Jags would hold the Roos scoreless in the fifth, but in the sixth, Lombardini picked up her third hit of the game and Maegan Rollow followed with a two-run homerun to leftfield to put the Roos back ahead by one.

The two teams were both held scoreless over the first three innings of play, but in the fourth, the Roos broke out in a big way, scoring seven against the Eagles with the big blast coming on Sydney Garcia’s three-run bomb over the left center fence.

In the inning, the Roos collected four hits and stole five of their nine bases in the game.

Morehead State chipped away with a run in each of the next two innings, but UMKC pushed the lead back to seven with a two-run sixth to reach the final margin.
