KANSAS CITY, Mo.-- The UMKC women’s basketball team (0-2) will look to pick up their first win of the 2018-2019 season next week as they face off against Kansas State (11/18) on the road at Bramlage Coliseum
#TeamKC Notes
  • About the Roos - Falling on the road to Kansas and Denver last week, the Roos will look to put it all together and pull out their first victory of the season when the team arrives in Manhattan, Kan., on Sunday to take on the Wildcats. With the arrival of 10 newcomers setting the stage for a new era of UMKC women’s basketball, the Roos will seek a signature win in non-conference play
  • Mattingly’s Hot Start - In only two games under head coach Jacie Hoyt and the UMKC women’s basketball program, junior guard Ericka Mattingly (Wichita, Kan.) has delivered two outstanding performances in her time in a Roos uniform. Mattingly’s stat line for the 2018-2019 season consists of averages of 21.5 points, 5.0 assists, 6.5 rebounds and a three point field goal percentage of .556. The Junior College All-American has made a name for herself in the WAC as well, ranking third in both scoring and assists amongst all WAC players
  • Preparing for the Wildcats - Coming off an above .500 season in the 2017-2018 campaign, head coach Jeff Mittie’s team will look to rise above their 18-16 mark with the return of the Wildcat’s top three scorers from last year. Preseason All Big 12 Team Selection forward Kayla Goth returns for her final season in Manhattan, Kan., where she looks to finish off a stellar career in the Purple and White. Goth displayed poise and excellent ball skills in 2017-2018 when she posted averages of 17.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 6.7 assists while tacking on a .366 percentage beyond the arc. Alongside the Wildcats point guard is junior Peyton Williams, who dazzled next to Goth last season, delivering 14.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game in last year’s campaign. Kansas State has played a part in the makeup of the Roos coaching staff in the last few years, with head coach Jacie Hoyt and assistant coach Kindred Wesemann previously being a part of coach Mittie’s program
  • Spotlight Player - Freshman guard Brooke Hampel (Huntsville, Ala.) has given the Roos nice minutes from the bench thus far in the 2018-2019 season, accumulating 9.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Hampel had a productive evening at Denver last Friday, posting a stat line of 17 points and 11 rebounds against the Pioneers, marking her first double-double in a UMKC jersey. Among all WAC players, Hampel ranks in the top 10 for field goal percentage (50.0%) thus far in 2018.The Huntsville, Ala., native will look to continue to be that spark plug off of Hoyt’s bench unit
  • Last Season - In 2017-18, the Roos finished 11-19 overall and 7-7 in WAC play.  On the season, UMKC picked up key WAC victories with an overtime win over Grand Canyon and sweeping the season series between UTRGV and Chicago State
  • Preseason Poll - The Roos were picked to finish tied for fifth by both the coaches and the media in the annual WAC preseason poll, tying with Utah Valley in the media poll and UTRGV in the coaches’ poll.  NM State, CSU Bakersfield, Seattle U and Grand Canyon were the top-4, in order, in each poll
  • Checking off a Career Milestone - Senior forward Kristen Moore (Chicago, Ill.) is on the verge of a career milestone for her time in the UMKC women’s basketball program. With only 48 more points to go, Moore will enter the 1000 career points club. So far in 2018, Moore has averaged 4.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals for the Roos. The Chicago, Ill., native will look to boost her numbers this week against the Wildcats before heading back home to partake in the home opener next Friday
