KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC volleyball (14-8, 5-3) will look to sweep the season series with Grand Canyon (9-10, 2-5) when it welcomes in the Lopes to the Swinney Recreation Center on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. CT in Kansas City.
About the Roos
UMKC enters the match with a 14-8 record overall and a 5-3 mark in WAC play. This season, the Roos have picked up WAC wins over Utah Valley, California Baptist, Chicago State, Seattle U and Grand Canyon. On the year, UMKC has garnered three WAC Player of the Week awards, as Tyrecia Lukes and Melanie Brecka garnered offensive honors and Alex Ratzlaff was awarded the defensive honor.
The Roos won the first meeting 3-1 in Phoenix. In the match, a trio of Roos reached double-digit kills, with Alicia Harrington notching 19 (.234), Melanie Brecka registering 18 (.471) and Tyrecia Lukes tallying 11 (.231). Lukes, meanwhile, added seven blocks, Harrington recorded five digs and Brecka finished with five blocks and four digs.
For the Roos, Brooke Jacobs finished with six kills and two blocks, while in the back row, Alex Ratzlaff notched 13 digs and Rhegan Spiegel 12. Alli Schomers, topped the Roos with 33 assists and Kynnedy Myers added 20 assists and nine digs. Emma Dyer finished with five blocks.
The Blue & Gold will head to the west coast for matches with CSU Bakersfield on Oct. 25 at 9 p.m. CT and California Baptist Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. CT.
