KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC volleyball team (13-6, 4-1) dropped its first WAC contest of the season when it fell to New Mexico State (13-5, 3-2) 3-0 on Thursday evening at the Swinney Recreation Center.

Brooke Jacobs led the Roos with six kills, hitting .364, while Melanie Brecka added 10 kills, two digs and a block and Alicia Harrington finished with nine kills, six digs and a block.

The Aggies jumped ahead in the match with a 25-15 first set victory.  NMSU built a 10-4 lead, before the Roos closed to within four at 14-10.  UMKC could get no closer though as the Aggies went up 1-0.

NMSU again built an early lead in set two, going ahead 10-5, but the Roos clawed back to take a 12-11 lead on a block from Brecka.  The Aggies, however, quickly reclaimed the lead before going on to take the set 25-19.

In the third set, UMKC went ahead 8-6 early on four straight kills, two from Harrington and one each from Emma Dyer and Alex Ratzlaff.  The two squads would continue to battle throughout the set, but NMSU tallied the set’s final three points for a 25-20 set win and a 3-0 match win.

For the Roos, Ratzlaff finished with four kills, seven digs and three blocks, while Alli Schomers added 17 assists and five digs and Kynnedy Myers had 11 assists and a dig.  Dyer, meanwhile, notched three kills and three blocks and Rhegan Spiegel had six digs.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Saturday when they welcome in UTRGV to the SRC for a 1 p.m. CT contest.
