Roos Open Up Conference Play Against Falcons

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Coming back home after a two-game road skid, the UMKC men’s soccer team will begin Western Athletic Conference play for the 2018 season against Air Force this Saturday at 7 p.m. C.T.


For fans wanting to follow the Roos’ conference opener against Air Force, Live Stats will be available as well as in-game updates through the team’s Twitter account. Each game will be video streamed live through the WAC Digital Network.

About the Roos

After completing non-conference play, UMKC looks to get back into the win column since their double overtime victory against Oral Roberts back on Aug. 31st. Head coach Rick Benben’s team comes into its home slate after loses to Northwestern (9/9) and Missouri State (9/15)

Junior forward Tim Staerz (Bad Nauheim, Germany) has led the charge for the Roos thus far into the season, accumulating one goal, one assist and three points in 2018. Staerz lone goal came in the clinching moments of the Oral Roberts match, where he put the Roos in the win column for the first time back on Aug. 31st.

Shifting down to the defensive side for the Roos, junior goalkeeper Filippo Errico (Verona, Italy) has proven he is the man between the posts, composing 26 saves, 2.09 goals allowed per game and a .667 save percentage in the 2018 season.

Senior forward Pandelis Popgeorgiev (Budapest, Hungary) has provided a spark to the offensive unit as of late, compiling one goal and two points for UMKC last week against the Bears.

About the Falcons

With two Top 25 wins on the season already, coming against #13 Colgate (9/9) and #22 San Francisco (9/14), the Falcons have cemented themselves into Top Drawer Soccer's Top 25 rankings as the #18 ranked team in the country.

The offense for Air Force has been scorching opponents at high rates throughout 2018, led by senior midfielder Tucker Boone and senior forward Austin Dewing. Boone has had his way this season, accumulating four goals, four assists and 12 points on 17 shots thus far. Dewing has kept up in the statistical column with his counterpart, registering five goals, one assist and 11 points in 2018.

Breaking down the offensive fury even more, both Boone and Dewing have combined for four game-winning goals in the eight games played for the Falcons.

In terms of the defensive side of the field, the Falcons have relied on junior goalkeeper Andrea Seazzu for their hot start to the 2018 season. Seazzu has gathered 21 saves on an astounding .808 save percentage while only allowing five goals for the Falcons.

After Saturday’s matchup with the Falcons, the Roos will continue their home stand with a game against Seattle U on Friday, Sept. 28th at 7 p.m. CT.
