KANSAS CITY – After playing in two exhibition games with crosstown universities, the UMKC men’s soccer team opens up the 2018 regular season against Missouri State on Friday. Friday’s matchup at Durwood Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
For fans wanting to follow the Roos’ season opener against Missouri State, Live Stats will be available as well as in-game updates through the team’s Twitter account. Each game will be video streamed live through the WAC Digital Network.
About the Roos
Under Head Coach Rick Benben, UMKC enters the 2018 season with nine returning starters, who hope to improve upon their 5-10-3 (.361) record from the 2017 campaign.
After turning in solid performances in exhibition play against MidAmerica Nazarene (3-0) and Rockurst (2-0), the Roos plan to build upon their early success with a prolific defensive unit.
Junior Antoine Precheur (Paris, France) and newcomer redshirt sophomore Mirko Orchi (Civitavecchia, Italy) bring style to a very good defender unit. Junior goalkeeper Filippo Errico (Verona, Italy) started all 17 games last season, posting 75 saves and a .728% save percentage while compiling four shutouts for the Roos.
Errico gained recognition for his play in 2017, earning a spot on the Honorable Mention All-WAC team.
Senior forward Pandelis Popgeorgiev (Budapest, Hungary) brings experience to the offensive front, attributing five points, three assists and 35 shots from the 2017 campaign.
About the Bears
Friday’s soccer match in Kansas City, Mo. will be Missouri State’s first game of the 2018 season. Last season, the Bears finished first in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 9-5-3 record. Moving into the 2018 season, Missouri State was voted from coaches in the conference to be the MVC Preseason Team of the Year. Senior forward Connor Ingram was tabbed as a preseason first team All-MVC selection for the Bears. Ingram, a native from Oxford, England, tallied seven goals for the bears on 39 shots last season.
After Friday’s matchup, the Roos will travel to Edwardsville, Ill. to play SIUE on Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. CT.
