Schellhardt Ties for Second, Roos Place 5th at Tiger Invitational

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s golf team posted a fifth place finish on Tuesday afternoon at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo., in the Tiger Invitational, finishing at +9, 873 (287-297-289).

McCain Schellhardt topped the Roos in the event, tying for second at -2.  Schellhardt started the event with five opening round birdies, playing his first 12 holes at -5.  In round two, he added three more birdies and an eagle on the par-4 No. 17, before notching seven more birdies in round three, back-to-back on Nos. 5-6, three straight on Nos. 9-11 and back-to-back on Nos. 17-18.

Paul Foulquie tied for 21st in the event at +2 after starting the event hot.  Foulquie began the event with four birdies and an eagle (par-5 No. 9) over his first six holes for a round one -3, while adding three birdies in round two, including back-to-back on Nos. 14-15.  He then tallied his last birdie in round three, getting his second straight birdie on No 15.

Tying for 49th was Matt Sieg at +10.  Sieg opened the event with four first round birdies, two on par-5’s and two on par-4’s, while adding three more in round two, including his second straight on both Nos. 3 and 15.  He followed with four more in round three on Nos. 4, 8-9 and 11.

Francois Lagraulet posted the next lowest score for UMKC at +7 in a tie for 40th.  In the opening two rounds, the Frenchman tallied three in each including going back-to-back on Nos. 10 and 17, while adding five more in round three, once more birdieing Nos. 10 and 17.

Rounding out the lineup was Taylor Larsen who tied for 87th at +19, carding six birdies over the three rounds.

Playing as an individual, Jack Hermeston tied for 21st at +2.  In round one, the Brit posted three birdies on both the front and back nines, including back-to-back on the par-4 No. 8 and the par-5 No. 9.  He added three more in round two, all over a four-hole stretch from Nos. 15-18 and a pair in round three.  In the event, he played the back nine at -4 with eight birdies.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Apr. 13-14 when they head to Iowa City, Iowa, for the Hawkeye Invitational at the Finkbine Golf Course.
