SEATTLE – The UMKC softball team (10-28, 0-6 WAC) opened up a three-game Western Athletic Conference series on the road at Seattle U (27-17, 5-1 WAC) on Friday night, falling in both contests of the doubleheader.
Olivia Fluehr (Loves Park, Ill.) made the start in the circle for the Roos and did not disappoint in the Saturday afternoon contest. Fluehr threw her second complete game of the season, allowing just one run on five hits over six strong innings of work. The lone blemish on stellar outing came on an RBI single off the bat of Bailey Thompson in the bottom of the fourth.
The UMKC lineup struggled once again in the series finale, collecting just three hits against Seattle U starter Carley Nance over her complete game performance. Senior infielder Kelsey Goodwin (Broken Arrow, Okla.) was one of the few Roo hitters to have some success off of Nance, finishing the game going 2 for 3 at the plate. Junior outfielder Maegan Rollow (Broken Arrow, Okla.) was the only other UMKC hitter to record a hit in the contest.
The Roos will return to action next weekend to host Utah Valley for a three-game Western Athletic Conference Series. A 6 p.m. CT contest on Friday, Apr. 13 will kick off the weekend prior to doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 14 beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
