Roos Notch Second Straight Win with Victory over Mavericks

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s tennis team (5-7) registered its second straight victory when it went to Omaha, Neb., and knocked-off Omaha (5-12), 6-0, at the Miracle Hills Tennis Center.

In doubles play, the Roos fell behind 1-0 when Hunter Clark and Anil Patel fell to Matt Dunn and Luke Moorhead, 6-1, at No. 3, but UMKC rebounded to claim the point with victories at No. 1 and 2.

From the top spot, the Roos No. 78 ranked duo of Airam Castellano and Alex Pozo took down Razvan Grigorescu and Nathan Reekie, 6-3 and at No. 2, Tom Kruse and Diego Giraldo beat Abdoul Ouattara and Alex Woodward by an identical 6-3 margin to claim the point.

In singles action, the Roos quickly extended the lead when Pozo beat Reekie, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and Giraldo knocked-off Woodward, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4.

UMKC’s fourth point came from the No. 5 position where Clark clinched the match for the Roos with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Marko Minic, while Kruse defeated Dunn, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at No. 3.

The Roos final point, meanwhile, came from the top line where Castellano beat Grigorescu 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5).

At No. 6, Anil Patel was trailing Moorhead, 6-4, 5-2 when the match was clinched.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Mar. 24 when they head to Norman, Okla., to take on Oklahoma at 2 p.m.
