UMKC Drops a Pair at Arkansas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s tennis team (3-7) dropped a pair of matches on Sunday night to Arkansas (8-5) at the Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Ark.

Alex Pozo led the way for the Roos in the event as he claimed a victory in the late match, 2-6, 7-6, 10-7 over Adam Sanjurjo from the No. 2 line after falling to Sanjurjo 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 in the early contest.

At No. 1, Airam Castellano fell in his match with No. 78 Jose Salazar, 6-2, 6-3 in the first match of the day and in the late contest, Tom Kruse fell to Jose Alonso, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3.

Hunter Clark, meanwhile, dropped a 6-4, 6-1 match to Josh Howard-Tripp at No. 4 and fell to Alex Reco, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6.

From the No. 5 line, Anil Patel lost 6-2, 7-5 to Branch Terrell and from the No. 4 spot lost to Oscar Mesquida, 6-3, 6-3.

Diego Giraldo rounded out the UMKC lineup, dropping a 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 contest at No. 5 in the late match and Daniel Izadifar fell at No. 6, 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 to Josh Bortnick.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Friday when they take on Northwest Missouri State at 1 p.m.
