LAWRENCE, Kan. – The UMKC men’s and women’s track and field teams will stay close to home this weekend, participating in the annual Jayhawk Classic, hosted by the University of Kansas, on Friday.
The meet is an all-day event and will feature 20 student-athletes from the women’s team and 22 student-athletes from the men’s squad. Most of the Roos will be focused on improving in a single event.
On the women’s side, Blessing Oparaji will competing in a pair of jumping events, while Carolyn Ross will join her teammate in the triple jump and will battle in the 400-meter dash. The duo are the only two set to compete in multiple events, aside from Daiwa Emmert, who will be participating in her first pentathlon of the season.
For the men, throwers Perry Adderly and Jacob Hockman will both represent UMKC in the shot put and hammer throw. Teammate Jamarice Preston will also compete in a pair of events – the 400-meter dash and high jump – while Zane Lockhart will be the busiest Roo with three events scheduled.
