KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC women’s tennis opens up the 2018 championship season when it welcomes in Kansas State for a 2 p.m. CT match at the Kansas City Racquet Club in Merriam, Kan., on Jan. 18 and Omaha on Jan. 21 for a 9:30 a.m. contest.

The Roos return to action for the first time in 2018 after claiming their first ever Western Athletic title a season ago.  The UMKC lineup features a quintet of returners, including a pair of Overland Park, Kan., natives in Katie Fries and Melinda Johnson, while Yana Grechkina (Vladimir, Russia), Aliona Ladutska (Minsk, Belarus) and Thanushree Vale (Chennai, India) also return for the Blue & Gold.  Joining the Roos this season are Grace Ball (Wichita, Kan.), Ioanna Lathouri and Brylin Staats (Overland Park, Kan.).

 

The match will also be the first of the season for the Wildcats, while the Mavericks will open the season on Friday with a home contest with Milwaukee before making the trip south.
