KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC women’s basketball team (0-2) continues their November road stretch with a pair of matchups against Tulsa (1-2) on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. CT and Iowa State (1-1) on Monday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. CT.
The Roos come into the matchups after competing in a pair of tough nonconference matchups against Western Illinois and Nebraska to open the year. UMKC fared well in the first half of both contests but were outscored a combined 91-58 in the second half despite strong energy from the team.
Kristen Moore (Chicago, Ill.) has been the top performer for UMKC in the early going, averaging a team-leading 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Two other Roos – Samantha Waldron (Omaha, Neb.) and Aries Washington (Kansas City, Mo.) – are scoring in double digits, as Waldron has accounted for 12.5 points per game while Washington is averaging 16 points a night.
UMKC has shot well from beyond the arc and at the free throw line. Thus far, the team is shooting 36% from three-point distance and 74% from the foul line. Washington has been terrific at the free throw line, going a perfect 9 for 9 in the first two contests.

Tulsa enters the game against the Roos coming off their first win of the 2017-18 season, defeating Arkansas-Little Rock by a final score of 74-61. Sophomore guard Shug Dickson is the primary scoring option for the Golden Hurricane, leading the team at 18.3 points per game. Tatyana Perez and Kendrian Elliot have also been difficult to stop, both averaging of over 17 points per game. The team as a whole has struggled to find its rhythm shooting the ball early on, sitting at 39% from the field and 30% from 3-point range.

Iowa State comes into the matchup on the heels of a close 57-53 loss to Northern Iowa. Junior guard Bridget Carlton has been a force in the Cyclones first two games as the primary offensive weapon. Selected as a Preseason All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, the 6-1 Carlton has averaged 21 points, tied for fourth in the Big 12 Conference, in addition to seven rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. She has been extremely efficient this season, shooting 50% from the field and from 3-point distance along with 81% free throw shooting.
The Roos will stay on the road to wrap up the month of November with trips to Illinois State on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. CT and Kansas on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. CT.
