AMES, Iowa – The UMKC men’s and women’s cross country teams will battle against the best this Friday at the 2017 NCAA Midwest Regional Meet, hosted by Iowa State, in Ames, Iowa. The women’s 6-kilometer race begins at 10:45 a.m. CT, while the men’s 10-kilometer competition is set for 11:45 a.m. CT.
"We are thrilled for the regional meet," head coach Shameika McField shared. "I think our training and mental preparation has been better than ever. We have progressed well throughout the year, so we will ignore rankings and just run."
Mia Jerman (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) will lead the pack on the women’s side, as she enters the meet coming off of her first Western Athletic Conference individual title that she claimed two weeks ago. Teammates Chandler Carreon (Lake St. Louis, Mo.), Sarah Fogarty (O’Fallon, Mo.), Elizabeth Nolke (Lee’s Summit, Mo.), Megan Mills (Nixa, Mo.) and Katherine Hanners (Jackson, Mo.) will join Jerman on the course. The group of Roos finished third at the WAC Championships – two places higher than a season ago.
On the men’s side, two-time WAC individual champion Bryce Miller (Ashland, Wis.) will guide the Roos in the 10-kilometer race. The 2017 WAC Team Champions, featuring Jason Fambrough (Raymore, Mo.), Quinlan Moll (Springfield, Mo.), Darrien Case (Parkville, Mo.), Marcus Johnson (Nixa, Mo.), Lachlan Moore (Nixa, Mo.), Daylan Quinn (Mountain View, Mo.) and Nathan Keown (Columbia, Mo.) will battle alongside Miller, as UMKC looks to finish higher than its 13th-place finish at last year’s Midwest regional meet.
