KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s soccer team (4-3-3, 2-0 WAC) continued its winning ways on Sunday afternoon, taking down Incarnate Word (2-6-1, 0-2 WAC), 1-0, to remain undefeated in the Western Athletic Conference.

Senior Eric McWoods (St. Louis, Mo.) continued to be an offensive threat for the Roos, taking his first of four shots in the match in the 15th minute of action. At the 16:46 mark, defender Diego Serfaty (Sunrise, Fla.) bombed the ball from midfield to the top of the 16-yard box. From there, McWoods punched in his fourth goal of the weekend – and seventh of the season – to put the Roos on the board.

In the 24th minute, UMKC goalkeeper Filippo Errico (Verona, Italy) collected his first save of the game on a header attempt by the Cardinals. McWoods would get off another shot attempt in the first half, while teammate Christian Anderaos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) tallied his first shot of the game in the closing seconds to give UMKC the 4-3 shot advantage going into the locker room.

Incarnate Word began to put pressure on UMKC’s defense, registering seven shots in the final 45 minutes of action. Errico continued to stand firm in the goal for UMKC, making three second-half saves to finish the afternoon with five total. Today’s shutout is the fifth of the season for the sophomore making it the third-most in a single season by a Roo in program history.

UMKC will head south for its first road match of the conference slate on Oct. 5 when it plays Houston Baptist to open up a three-game stretch on the road.
