Roos Hit the Road for the First Time in WAC Play

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC volleyball team hits the road for the first time in Western Athletic Conference play when it heads to Edinburg, Texas, and Las Cruces, N.M.  The Roos open up with a 7 p.m. match on Sep. 28 against UTRGV, before closing out the weekend with a 2 p.m. contest at New Mexico State on Sep. 30.

About the Roos
UMKC (5-10, 1-1) is coming off a 1-1 opening weekend of WAC play where they beat Grand Canyon 3-2 before falling to CSU Bakersfield 3-0.  In the match with the Lopes, Alicia Harrington (Cedar Falls, Iowa) led the way with 22 kills, 22 digs and four blocks, while Alex Ratzlaff (Hillsboro, Kan.) also notched a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs.  Rhegan Spiegel (Savannah, Mo.), meanwhile, finished with 26 digs.

About the Vaqueros
UTRGV (7-7, 1-0) opened up WAC play with a 3-2 win over New Mexico State in Edinburg.  On the season, Ragni Steen Knudsen (177), Bojana Mitrovic (147) and Barbara Silva (104) have all topped the 100 kill mark, while Gysell Zayas (185), Mitrovic (113) and Knudsen (107) all have over 100 digs.

About the Aggies
After falling to UTRGV in the opening weekend of WAC play, New Mexico State enters the weekend with an 8-6 record overall and an 0-1 mark in WAC play.  Offensively, Kassandra Tohm leads the way with 156 kills, while Jordan Abalos, Tatyana Battle and Sasha-Lee Thomas have added 137, 133 and 118 kills, respectively.  In the back row, Ariadnne Sierra tops the Aggies with 269 digs.

The Roos return to Kansas City on Oct. 6 when they welcome in Chicago State for a Friday evening tilt at the Swinney Recreation Center.
