KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s soccer team (2-2-3) dropped a tough defensive battle, 1-0, to the visiting Missouri State Bears (4-2-1) on Tuesday evening.

Two minutes into the match, junior Henry Ramirez (Costa Mesa, Calif.) fired UMKC’s first shot of the night, sending the ball just high of the crossbar. In the 17th minute, MSU’s Josh Dolling tallied the Bears first shot, but UMKC goalkeeper Filippo Errico (Verona, Italy) wouldn’t let the ball past him, collecting his WAC-leading 32nd save of the season.

A shot by Antoine Precheur (Paris, France) and Eric McWoods (St. Louis, Mo.) – and a pair from Christian Anderaos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) – would help the Roos carry a 5-2 shot advantage over the Bears after the first 45 minutes of play.

In the second half, neither team recorded a shot until the 70th minute of action, as a Bears blocked shot turned into MSU’s lone goal of the evening to give them the 1-0 lead over UMKC.

Diego Serfaty (Sunrise, Fla.), Enric Ferrer (Barcelona, Spain) and Chris Bellmann (Nuremberg, Germany) each tallied a shot in the remaining minutes of the match, but were unable to put the equalizer on the board.

The Roos will travel to Drake on Sept. 23 to wrap up the nonconference portion of its schedule before opening Western Athletic Conference play against UT Rio Grande Valley and Incarnate Word.
