FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Francois Lagraulet (Bordeaux, France) notched his first career title at the Ram Master Invitational, shooting a three round score of -9 at the Fort Collins Country Club.

“It means a lot to me to me to get my first win,” Lagraulet said. “I have been at UMKC for three years and I have put in a lot of hard work. I am also extremely excited for the team playing great with a second place finish to start off the season. We are off to a solid start to accomplish the goals we set for the team and for myself.”

The junior continued his strong play in the final round of action, shooting a 69 to finish the day at -1, winning the first individual title for the Roos since Antoine Rozner claimed the WAC Championship title in 2016, and help UMKC men’s golf to a second place finish as a team.

“I’m just so happy for Francois,” Head Coach J.W. VanDenBorn said.  “I know what this win means to him and I couldn't be more proud. After his season ended early last spring due to injury, to come out and win in the opening event of the year, that's pretty special. The sky is the limit for him and this is a great springboard into the season.”

Lagraulet opened the day with a birdie on the par-5 No. 1 and, after a bogey on No. 2, tallied his second birdie of the day on the par-4 No. 4.  Following five straight pars, the Frenchman stumbled with back-to-back bogies on Nos. 10 and 11, but rebounded to close the round with birdies on the par-3’s of No. 14 and 17 to claim the crown.

Sam Humphreys (Edmond, Okla.) finished as the second highest Roo in the event after a final round that included birdies on the opening two holes of the day as well as two of the final four holes to climb to 12th overall.

McCain Schellhardt’s (Edmond, Okla.) six birdie final round 69 propelled him into a tie for 25th on the leaderboard, while Paul Foulquie (Paris, France) finished in a tie for 36th after two birdies in the final round.

Freshman Taylor Larsen (Garden City, Kan.) rounded out the UMKC lineup in a tie for 77th as he notched a pair of birdies in the final round.

“I’m proud of what these guys accomplished this week,” VanDenBorn added.  “The consistency of our play and getting contributions throughout the lineup is a great sign for this group going forward. It's a great credit Coach Rick Hairgrove for putting these guys in a position to play the way they have this week. Great start to the season.”

Lagraulet won the event by three shots over Wyoming’s John Murdock, while host Colorado State was the team champion, finishing 19 shots better than the Roos.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action on Oct. 1-3 when they head to Valentine, Neb., for the Jackrabbit Invitational at The Prairie Club.
