About the Roos

UMKC returns to the court in regular season action for the first time in 2017 after an exhibition match with Kansas and being selected to finish fourth in the WAC by the coaches in the conference’s annual preseason poll. The Roos are led by Preseason All-WAC selection Alicia Harrington (Cedar Falls, Iowa) who tallied 278 kills a year ago, hitting .216, while fellow sophomore Mykal Sadler (Des Moines, Iowa) added 96 kills with a .234 hitting percentage.  Head coach Christi Posey, meanwhile, enters the season two wins shy of 100 in her career.

About the Blue Raiders

The Blue Raiders return seven of their members this season, including junior outside hitter Regan Coughlin, who led the team in kills (246) last season.  The team will also return senior Sloan Sullivan for her final season as a Blue Raider. Along with Sullivan, head coach Chuck Crawford will return Dora Peonia, Makila York, Bailey Mason, Aubrie Huddleston and Vonnie Covington.

About the Governors

Austin Peay returns 11 players (lost two) from last season's team that posted the fifth-best win-loss record improvement among Division I teams and finished with the most wins (24) of any Tennessee Division I team. 2016 First-Team All-OVC selections Kristen Stucker and Ashley Slay return for the 2017 campaign. Stucker is the reigning OVC Setter of the Year.

About the Thundering Herd

Six of the top 12 Thundering Herd players -- in terms of sets played -- are gone from the roster after a 22-8 season that featured a third place finish in Conference USA. Marshall’s sophomore class features 5-10 setter Madelyn Cole, 5-10 outside hitter Jac'cara Walker and 6-1 middle blocker Madison Hill. All three players were named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team last season and participated in the European Global Challenge this summer.

Up Next

The Roos head back east to Edwardsville, Ill., for the Cougar Classic on Sep. 1-2. UMKC takes on Tulsa at 4:30 p.m. on Friday to begin the event before a contest on Saturday morning with Wright State at 10 a.m.  The Roos and host SIU Edwardsville then close the event out with a 7 p.m. tilt.
