About the Roos

The Roos head into the weekend matches coming off a 3-0 exhibition loss to Kansas State last Sunday followed by a week of practice and recovery. All-conference selections Lexie Howard (Kearney, Mo.) and Reighan Childers (Grain Valley, Mo.) will look to set the tone for the 2017 season with a strong opening bout. UMKC aims to build on an impressive display of energy in their exhibition match where they were able to put seven shots on goal. Carly Janike (Lincoln, Neb.) looked strong with the ball throughout and had the team’s best shot of the day. Last season, the Roos bested Oral Roberts in 4-0 win in Kansas City. UMKC has been unable to overcome Oklahoma State in its first two meetings.

About the Eagles

Oral Roberts finished last season with an 11-9-2 overall record and return 22 players from that squad. The Eagles, who were picked to finish fourth in the Summit League, played one exhibition match against the Mexico U-20 National Team that ended in a 5-0 loss. UMKC will need to keep close tabs on reigning conference Offensive Player of the Year and preseason all-conference selection Lexi Jones who scored 11 goals in 2016. ORU is led by fifth year head coach Roger Bush.

About the Cowgirls

Oklahoma State begins their season identically to UMKC, with their season opener on Friday before Sunday’s matchup. A solid 1-0 win for the Cowgirls over Missouri leads them into a Friday night home contest with Loyola. Oklahoma State was picked to finish sixth in the Big 12 Conference and returns eight starters and five of the top six scorers from last season’s team who finished 9-9-3 and lost in the opening round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship.
