UMKC Falls at Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. – UMKC (7-8) was defeated 77-54 at Mississippi State (9-3) Thursday evening at Humphrey Coliseum. Kyle Steward (Detroit, Mich.) led the Roos with 15 points to go along with four rebounds and two steals in a season-high 34 minutes. LaVell Boyd (Chicago, Ill.) added 14 points, five rebounds and two steals.

UMKC struggled offensively, shooting only 28 percent (17-for-60) from the field and 19 percent from 3-point range. MSU finished 50 percent (29-for-58) from the floor and 48 percent (11-for-23) from beyond the arc. Quinndary Weatherspoon led with game-highs of 25 points and four assists in addition to seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs held a 44-28 lead at halftime, led by 18 points and six rebounds by Weatherspoon. Boyd scored 12 points in the first half for the Roos. UMKC was 7-for-8 from the free throw line during the first 20 minutes.

In the second half, the Roos shot just 25 percent from the floor while MSU shot 46 percent from the field.

Darnell Tillman (Detroit, Mich.) pulled down eight rebounds for UMKC. He has grabbed at least eight boards six times this season and five times in the last eight contests.

UMKC now returns home for a 3-game home stand beginning with USC Upstate at 6:35 p.m. on Monday at Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City. The Military Mondays promotion features a buy one, get one free ticket option for all active service members and veterans.
