Brian Morris joined UMKC in September of 2014 as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations.
Under Morris’ oversight, UMKC Athletics has seen considerable growth in giving, corporate sponsorships and ticket sales. During the 2015-16 year, corporate sponsorship revenues increased by 242 percent over the previous year and exceeded half a million dollars, while annual giving totals increased by 83 percent. In addition, ticket sales also increased dramatically with revenues increasing exponentially across the board, with overall ticket sales increasing by 32 percent. Men’s basketball single-game ticket sales increased by 57 percent, after seeing a 46 percent increase in 2014-15.
Volleyball saw an increase of 475 percent over 2015-16 in season ticket sales and a 46 percent increase in single-game sales. Women’s soccer saw substantial growth increasing season ticket sales by 249 percent and single game ticket sales by 201 percent. Men’s soccer also saw significant increases with season ticket sales (151 percent increase) and single game ticket purchases (19 percent increase).
Prior to joining UMKC, Morris served as the Associate Athletic Director for External Operations at Oklahoma Baptist University and has served in several collegiate athletics development and corporate sponsorship roles at institutions such as Oklahoma State, Wichita State, Arkansas State and Oklahoma.
While at OBU, he assisted in securing a $1.5 million split gift for OBU and the OBU athletics department. Morris also increased the athletics department sponsorship and ticket revenues by 900% from $40,000 to $400,000 in less than two years.
Prior to OBU he was the senior account executive for Oklahoma State Cowboy Sports Properties (Learfield Sports), generating $115,000 in new sponsorship revenue.
Morris also served as the Associate Athletic Director for Development at Wichita State University. While at WSU, he led the athletics development staff and served as a member of the athletic director’s senior management team. He secured a $1.2 million naming-rights gift for the Bombardier Learjet Indoor Practice Facility and maintained oversight of the $3.4 million annual fund for the Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization. He also secured half of the private funds for the $3.7 million Building Excellence for the Student-Athlete Campaign.
Morris also worked as the Assistant Athletic Director for Development at Arkansas State University, where he led the development staff in setting a record breaking level for athletics annual fund giving. He also secured $250,000 in major gifts for renovation of their baseball stadium.
As the Assistant Director of Athletics Development at the University of Oklahoma, he raised $850,000 in major gifts during the stadium renovation campaign, while assisting in the record-setting annual fundraising drive.
Morris currently serves as the Western Athletics Conference representative for the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD) and previously served as the Missouri Valley Conference representative for the same organization.
Morris currently serves on the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Kansas City’s Sports LAB Advisory Board and also on the BGCGKC SportsFest Board.
Morris is a two-year letterwinner in baseball at Tabor College, and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications from Kansas State University in 2003 and a master’s degree in sport management from Wichita State University in 2013.
Morris and his wife Tracie are the proud parents of four children: Lauren, Bennett, Raylen and Caleb.
