Johnson’s Big Second Half Propels Roos to Overtime Victory Over Abilene Christian

Abilene, Texas – Fourteen second half points from redshirt junior India Johnson (Overland Park, Kan.) would prove to be the spark UMKC women's basketball needed, as the Roos posted a 71-68 overtime victory on the road against Abilene Christian on Saturday afternoon.

UMKC Falls at South Dakota State, 77-68

UMKC (6-3) was defeated 77-68 by South Dakota State (4-6) on Saturday at Frost Arena. LaVell Boyd (Chicago, Ill.) led the Roos with 19 points, six assists, five rebounds and a career-high five steals. Isaiah Ross (Davenport, Iowa) added 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Kyle Steward (Detroit, Mich.) finished with a career-high 16 points to go with six rebounds.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Coming off a 68-point win at home over Central Christian, the UMKC women's basketball team is set for its second road test of the season. The Roos travel to Abilene, Texas, to face Abilene Christian on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. CT.

UMKC men's basketball (6-2) visits South Dakota State (3-6) for an 11 a.m. CT tipoff Saturday in a game that will be televised on KSMO-TV in the Kansas City area. Neil Harwell (play-by-play) and Joel Goldberg (color commentary) will have the call. The Roos are off to the program's best start in 15 years when UMKC also opened 6-2 following a 5-0 start in 2001.

Senior guard LaVell Boyd (Chicago, Ill.) scored 19 points and dished out a career-high eight assists to lead the Roos to an 84-82 victory over a tough South Dakota (6-3) squad on Wednesday night at Municipal Auditorium. The Roos drained 11 shots from beyond the arc and all 11 players who saw action scored points. At 6-2, UMKC equals its best start since the 2001-02 season.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – All 14 of UMKC women's basketball players got in the scoring column, including four in double-digits, led by junior Kiana Law (Pittsburgh, Pa.) with 19 and backed by a double-double from redshirt sophomore Kristen Moore (Chicago, Ill.) as the Roos coasted to a 111-43 victory over Central Christian on Tuesday night.

Senior guard LaVell Boyd (Chicago, Ill.) scored a game-high 24 points and set career-highs with seven assists and 12 made free throws in UMKC's (5-2) 86-75 victory over Southeast Missouri (3-3) on Monday evening at Municipal Auditorium. The Roos drained a season-best 12 shots from beyond the arc for the second consecutive game.
