Wendell Moore, who spent the past two seasons at Florida Atlantic University, has been named an assistant coach with the UMKC men's basketball team.

Kansas City, Mo. -- Head Coach Matt Brown announced today that Wendell Moore has been named an assistant coach with the UMKC men’s basketball program. Moore returns to Kansas City after spending the last two years as an assistant coach under Rex Walters at Florida Atlantic University.

“We are very excited to welcome Wendell and his family back to Kansas City,” said Brown. “Not only is he a great basketball coach, but he is an even better person. We are looking forward to having Wendell help us strengthen our ties within the Kansas City community.”

In Boca Raton, Moore coached a pair of players to all-league honors. Carlos Monroe and DeAndre Rice were second team all-Sun Belt selections in 2006-07, while Moore earned a first team accolade in 2007-08. The Owls were a prolific scoring team during both of Moore’s seasons at the school, as FAU set new school scoring records each season.

Before moving to the Sunshine State, Moore served as an assistant coach at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Okla., from 2004-06. During his two-year stint, the Cougars posted a 50-10 overall record, and they were the regional championship runner-up in 2005. He coached four student-athletes to junior college all-America honors and his team posted the top grade point average (3.43) in the nation.

Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Moore spent five seasons as the head coach at Wyandotte High School, where he competed against the top prep teams in Kansas City, Kan. In 2004, he guided the Bulldogs to a 14-7 overall record and all five of his starters went on to receive college basketball scholarships. One of his players, Keith “Boo” Richardson, was a 5A all-State selection before going on to be a First Team Junior College all-American.

Moore played collegiate basketball for two seasons at Georgia Southern, where he helped lead the 1991-92 squad to the Trans American Athletic Conference (TAAC) Championship and the NCAA Tournament with a school record 25 wins. During the historic season, he helped the Eagles set school records for single season steals (92) and three point field goal percentage (.470). For his play, Moore earned TAAC all-conference honors, and he was named Chevrolet’s Most Valuable Player at the NCAA Tournament.

Before moving to Statesboro, Moore got his first college exposure as a player at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, where he started on the nation’s pre-season No. 1 team as a sophomore in 1989-90. Moore’s success as a player began at Wichita South High School, where he earned all-state honors after helping his team to an undefeated season en route to the 1988 6A Kansas State Championship.

A native of Wichita, Kan., Moore completed his associate’s degree in business administration at Hutchinson in 1990 before graduating from Georgia Southern in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in communications. He and his wife, Tamelia, have three children - Noah (11), Peydan (8) and Aunni (5).
